If you like babies, then you’re going to enjoy this Christmas Season at the Red Brick Church. We’re looking forward to our church family coming together from Byron, Oregon, Davis Junction, Rockford, Monroe Center and other surrounding communities.
We are so used to singing, “Away in the Manger,” that we begin to take it for granted that God’s son entered space in history as an infant. We sing about Jesus being born while scarcely giving it a thought.
But, if we really reflect on God’s Word we will be amazed in an Almighty God who entered history so gently and humbly.
Babies are so beautiful. So miraculous. “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21).”
God didn’t begin writing babies into the story with the birth of Jesus. Throughout the Old Testament, we read amazing stories about God’s “ways in the manger.” Each birth narrative is a chapter in the incredible story of how God is working out salvation for his people and how babies are a part of it.
This Christmas season, our sermon series will consider five ways in the manger that God wove into the story of the Good News.
December 2 – Ways Through Laughter (Genesis 21:1-7)
December 9* – Ways Worth Dying For (Genesis 35:16-21)
December 16 – Ways With the Word (1 Samuel 1-3:1)
December 23 – The Way in the Manger (Matthew 1:18-25)
December 24** – Ways that Include Us (2 Kings 11:1-3)
