Easter Vocabulary and the Cross in Luke Coming Up at The Red Brick Church

Chris BraunsUncategorized

The Red Brick Church in Stillman Valley, IL is already thinking about Easter. This winter the Red Brick Church will focus on knowing the key terms, places, and people involved in the Easter story. If you don’t have a church home, be our guest. You can read a related post on my web site.

Right now, our church looks like the picture to the right, and more snow is falling as I type. That said, I’m ready to think about spring.

And spring means Easter. So beginning on February 16,  will begin a new series from the Gospel of Luke – – Focused on the Cross. In that preaching series, we will see how the Gospel of Luke beginning in Luke 9:51 repeatedly stresses how Jesus was Cross-centered even as we learn key terms, people, and places.

To Jesus’s resolve to go to the Cross, notice these verses.

When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. Luke 9:51

He went on his way through towns and villages, teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem. Luke 13:22

On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. Luke 17:11

And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. Luke 18:31

And when he had said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. Luke 19:28

As I have said, one of the key focuses this preaching series will be to develop a set of terms, places, and people that everyone should know about the Easter story. If you don’t have a church home, you are invited to be our guest at the Red Brick Church! Even in the midst of the frozen winter – – let’s look forward to spring and the Resurrection.
