Finding Refreshment For Tired Souls at the Table

redbrickchurchUncategorized

One of the central ways we find strength as believers is through worship – – especially communion. On Sunday, July 19, we are observing the Lord’s Supper. We have encouraged our church family to make this a priority.

Too many people are trying to live the Christian life in their own strength. Rather than growing in the strength of Christ they are trying to “white knuckle” it through life – – to grow as believers through human resolve.

But the Bible teaches that the grace of God that brings salvation also enables us to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives. That is, God supplies the grace and strength for us to grow.

Yet, God does not sprinkle grace around the face of the earth like pixie dust. He chooses to work through certain appointed means. As we rinse our minds with the Scripture, share life with one another, worship together, and pray (Acts 2:42)  – – and in doing  all these things as we fix our eyes on our Savior (2 Corinthians 3:17-18) – – we will be transformed by God’s power.

So, as it relates to our observance of the Lord’s Supper together, we have encouraged our church family with three “A’s”:

  1. Announce – Remind one another that we will be observing the Lord’s Supper on Sunday. Share a reminder on Facebook. Make a phone call. Send a text.
  2. Anticipate – Begin an attitude of worship now. Read the Sermon on the Mount! It’s only a few pages long. Listen to last Sunday’s sermon.
  3. Attend – We need you here! You need to be here – – if at all possible.

Let’s savor the opportunity to be refreshed in Christ together.
