Sharpening Our “Wisdom Saws” This Summer in Proverbs

redbrickchurchUncategorized

The book of Proverbs sharpens the wisdom saws we use to cut our way through life. The preaching series on Proverbs should offer many conversation topics. We’re praying our teens will be especially engaged and that parents and grandparents will be on the lookout for talking points.

Wisdom is skill for living in the fear of the one true God. Using a word picture: wisdom is the “saw” we use to cut our way through life.

Of course, if we are going to use the picture of wisdom being the saw we use to cut our way through life, then we must also acknowledge that life is one tough piece of wood! We make decisions in an increasingly complex world. See, for example, Pastor Chris Brauns’ post this morning in which Cal Thomas wonders if the decline is speeding up.

Given that life is hard and knotty wood, then we need for our wisdom saws to have a sharp edges. This Sunday (6/2/13) at the Red Brick Church in Stillman Valley, we will begin a series on on Proverbs. In that series, we will see that one of the key ways that we sharpen the edge of our wisdom is through the book of Proverbs. This will be an extremely practical series of sermons.
